RoMa Craft Tobac

RoMa Craft Tobac is an independent premium-cigar company created by Michael Rosales and Skip Martin. Its name combines Rosales and Martin, while its public philosophy - Tobacco, Talent, Time - describes a deliberate craft-production model built around strong tobacco, experienced workers and patience.

The company is closely connected to Fábrica de Tabacos Nica Sueño S.A. in Estelí, Nicaragua. RoMa Craft owns its brands, while factory ownership is a related but distinct partnership involving Martin and Esteban Disla.

Skip Martin and Michael Rosales Before RoMa Craft

Skip Martin entered the business through retail and operated Galveston Bay Tobacco in Texas. Michael Rosales brought tobacco importing, brokerage and distribution experience through Costa Rican Imports, giving the future company both product-development and commercial capabilities.

Their complementary roles became central to RoMa Craft: Martin focused heavily on blending, factory systems and production in Nicaragua, while Rosales led U.S. sales, retailer relationships and distribution.

The CroMagnon Beginning

Martin and Rosales began working together around 2010 while trying to develop a private-label cigar. After early Costa Rican concepts did not meet their objective, they shifted the project to Estelí and worked with blender and factory operator Esteban Disla.

The blend that became CroMagnon was first sold through Martin's retail operation, initially without conventional national-brand presentation. Demand for the cigar created the foundation for a larger company and permanent production system.

Building Nica Sueño

The early cigars were produced in a small workspace associated with Disla's home. Martin and Disla then established Fábrica de Tabacos Nica Sueño S.A. in Estelí, turning the Nicaraguan Dream into a dedicated factory capable of supporting RoMa Craft and selected third-party brands.

Nica Sueño is not simply another name for RoMa Craft. RoMa Craft is the Martin-Rosales brand company; the factory has been described as a separate Martin-Disla ownership partnership with Disla overseeing daily production.

The 2012 Company Formation

RoMa Craft Tobac was formally organized in 2012 by Rosales and Martin after the early CroMagnon work and factory development. Some sources date the operating story to 2010 or 2011, so editorial copy should distinguish development, factory establishment and company formation.

The RoMa name visibly joins its founders' surnames. Craft communicates the company's preferred production identity: controlled scale, direct responsibility and repeatable quality rather than growth for its own sake.

Quality, Capacity and Retailer Selection

RoMa Craft emphasizes consistency through tobacco selection, experienced craftsmanship and adequate aging time. Its official retailer language is deliberately selective, favoring experienced tobacconists willing to explain the brands rather than unrestricted distribution.

The company has historically limited production to what the factory and tobacco supply can support. That approach can create allocations, but it should not be converted into unsupported scarcity claims for every line or size.

Ownership, Leadership and Company Structure

RoMa Craft remains associated with co-founders Michael Rosales and Skip Martin. Martin is the principal production and blending voice in Estelí, while Rosales leads commercial and retailer-facing work in the United States.

Esteban Disla is essential to the Nica Sueño story as factory partner and production leader. Third-party brands made at Nica Sueño remain independently owned unless a source specifically documents a RoMa Craft ownership interest.

CroMagnon and Aquitaine

CroMagnon is the foundational full-flavored family built around Connecticut broadleaf wrapper, Cameroon binder and Nicaraguan filler. Aquitaine uses a different wrapper direction over a related internal concept and must be maintained as its own blend family.

Neanderthal

Neanderthal extends RoMa Craft's prehistoric naming with a powerful blend associated with Pennsylvania Green River Valley sucker tobacco. Strength, wrapper, format and production details should be documented on the individual product record.

Intemperance

Intemperance explores different wrapper families, including Ecuador Connecticut and Brazil Arapiraca directions, within RoMa Craft's more approachable portfolio role. The variants are related by brand but not identical cigars.

Baka, CRAFT and Limited Platforms

Baka centers on Cameroon wrapper tobacco in compact formats. CRAFT and other special projects serve as limited or experimental platforms, making edition name, year, quantity and current availability essential metadata.

Wunder|Lust and Factory-Made Partner Brands

Wunder|Lust began as an international-market project with German connections. Nica Sueño also produces independently owned cigars such as Powstanie; manufacturing does not make those brands part of the RoMa Craft portfolio.

RoMa Craft Tobac in the Ashology Network
