HVC Cigars

HVC Cigars is a boutique premium-cigar company founded in Miami in 2011 by Havana-born Reinier Lorenzo. HVC is an abbreviation for Havana City, a name that connects Lorenzo's birthplace and Cuban cultural references to a portfolio built primarily with Nicaraguan tobacco and produced in Estelí.

The company began with contract production at Aganorsa Leaf's TABSA factory and opened Fábrica de Tabacos HVC S.A. in 2022. That transition from brand owner to factory owner is the central company story. Older lines and editions may be Aganorsa-made, while newer versions can come from HVC's own factory, making release-level verification essential.

Havana City, Miami and the 2011 Founding

Reinier Lorenzo was born in Havana and later established HVC Cigars in Miami. The initials HVC stand for Havana City, giving the company a direct identity rooted in Lorenzo's birthplace rather than a generic reference to Cuban-style branding.

Lorenzo founded the company in 2011 and developed a restrained visual language influenced by Cuban cigar traditions. The business combined a U.S. brand and sales base with Nicaraguan production, allowing HVC to translate personal heritage into an independent modern portfolio.

The Aganorsa Leaf and TABSA Years

Before HVC owned a factory, its cigars were made under contract at Tabacos Valle de Jalapa S.A. (TABSA), the Estelí factory associated with Aganorsa Leaf. HVC was an early boutique partner of the Fernández family's growing tobacco and manufacturing platform.

Lines such as Serie A, the original Hot Cake, Cerro and early 500th Anniversary releases established HVC's reputation through Aganorsa-grown Nicaraguan tobacco. This period should be preserved in product history even when a current version has moved to HVC's factory.

Recognition and Portfolio Growth

HVC built visibility through recurring projects and compact, Cuban-influenced formats. Serie A earned strong independent recognition in 2019, and Hot Cake became one of the company's most recognizable regular-production families after its 2020 introduction.

Black Friday developed as an annual limited series with a different format or specification by year. The 500th Anniversary family commemorated the 500th anniversary of Havana's founding, reinforcing the company's relationship between Cuban memory and Nicaraguan production.

Founder Ownership and Leadership

HVC is founder-led by Reinier Lorenzo, who is identified publicly as owner and president. He directs company strategy, blending and factory development and remains the principal spokesperson for new lines and production changes.

No current evidence supports describing HVC as owned by Aganorsa Leaf. Aganorsa was the company's principal contract manufacturer and remains an important tobacco relationship, but HVC's factory ownership created a separate manufacturing entity under Lorenzo's control.

Miami Base and Estelí Operations

HVC maintains its U.S. business identity in Miami, Florida, while cigar production is based in Estelí, Nicaragua. The official contact information has listed a Miami location, and the factory gives the company a direct Nicaraguan manufacturing footprint.

Distribution, retailer access and limited allocations may vary by release. Company-level copy should describe the two-country operating structure without treating the Miami office as the cigar factory or assuming every item is continuously available.

The 2022 HVC Factory Milestone

Fábrica de Tabacos HVC S.A. opened in Estelí in early 2022 as a roughly 12,000-square-foot operation. Selección No. 1 was the first line released from the new factory and marked HVC's shift from an asset-light contract brand into a boutique manufacturer.

Subsequent Hot Cake extensions, Black Friday editions and anniversary projects have been produced there. Factory migration is not automatically retroactive: archived reviews may correctly identify TABSA, while later releases bearing a familiar brand name may correctly identify HVC's factory.

Hot Cake

Hot Cake began as an Aganorsa-made Mexican San Andrés-wrapped family and became a signature HVC line. Golden Line Connecticut, Fresh Out of the Oven Broadleaf and later formats expanded the name, with newer production associated with HVC's factory. Each expression needs its own factory and blend record.

Selección No. 1

Selección No. 1 was the first brand released from Fábrica de Tabacos HVC S.A. in 2022. Maduro, Natural and Connecticut versions use different wrappers over Nicaraguan cores. The family documents HVC's factory milestone but does not represent one universal recipe.

Serie A, Cerro and Pan Caliente

Serie A, Cerro and Pan Caliente represent the company's Aganorsa-rooted development period. Their Cuban-inspired names and formats helped establish HVC before its own factory opened. Current or revived editions should be checked for factory migration and updated specifications.

Black Friday

Black Friday is an annual limited series whose size, production quantity, blend and sometimes factory change by year. The 2022 edition was the first Black Friday made at HVC's factory. Search pages should preserve dated editions rather than merging them into one permanent product.

500th Anniversary and Special Projects
