The History of Undercrown Maduro Where Undercrown Maduro Is Made Undercrown Maduro is made at La Gran Fabrica Drew Estate in Estelí, Nicaragua. Its production home is also the setting of the blend’s origin story: the company credits the factory’s buncheros and rolleras with creating the original Undercrown. Drew Estate traces the Undercrown story to the factory floor at La Gran Fabrica Drew Estate in Estelí, Nicaragua. As demand for Liga Privada grew, the company asked its cigar rollers to reduce how many Liga Privada cigars they smoked. The buncheros and rolleras responded by creating a blend of their own, and that factory-floor creation became the original Undercrown Maduro. Drew Estate’s current brand history dates the beginning of that story to 2010 and describes Undercrown as a cigar created by the people who make the company’s cigars. That origin is central to the identity of Undercrown Maduro. Rather than beginning as a top-down brand concept, the blend emerged from the production floor and became the foundation of the wider Undercrown family. Drew Estate now presents Undercrown Maduro as 'The People’s Champion' and continues to connect the cigar directly to the rolleros and buncheros of La Gran Fabrica. The Maduro blend uses a dark Mexican San Andres wrapper over a Connecticut River Valley Stalk-Cut and Stalk-Cured Habano binder, with Brazilian Mata Fina and Nicaraguan filler tobaccos. Drew Estate classifies it as Medium–Full and describes its profile as bold, deep and textured, with earthy richness and natural sweetness. The current portfolio spans traditional formats such as Robusto, Gran Toro and Corona Doble as well as the distinctive seasonal Flying Pig.
