From Private Blend to Public Release

Liga Privada developed while Drew Estate was establishing itself as a serious producer of traditional premium cigars. The project is closely associated with former company president Steve Saka and a blending effort intended to create cigars for senior company personnel. After extensive blend testing, the company selected the ninth blend as the foundation of Liga Privada No. 9. Drew Estate dates the brand’s inception to 2007, with the No. 9 reaching the public as the family’s first defining expression.

Why the Name Liga Privada Matters

“Liga Privada” translates as “private blend.” The name describes both the original internal purpose and the brand’s continuing emphasis on limited tobacco, specialized rollers and controlled production. The name should not be interpreted as a separate manufacturer. Liga Privada is a Drew Estate-owned brand family, and Drew Estate remains the company responsible for its factory, production standards, marketing and distribution.

Liga Privada is handmade at La Gran Fábrica Drew Estate in Estelí, Nicaragua. Drew Estate describes a dedicated production room staffed by experienced buncheros and rolleras who specialize in the family’s construction. Factory attribution belongs at both brand and product level. Limited, international or event-only releases may use different blends and sizes, but current official material continues to identify Drew Estate’s Nicaraguan factory as the family’s production center.

Connecticut River Valley Tobacco

The Connecticut River Valley is central to Liga Privada’s identity. No. 9, T52, H99 and anniversary projects highlight different U.S.-grown wrapper traditions, including broadleaf, stalk-cut Habano and specially developed hybrid leaf. The family page should explain this agricultural connection without flattening every Liga into one blend. Wrapper, binder, filler and fermentation records must remain attached to the named expression.

Small-Batch Production and Availability

Liga Privada’s positioning depends on tobacco selection, lengthy processing and specialized labor. Those constraints have contributed to limited availability and an authorized-retailer strategy. Availability is not proof that every release is permanently rare. Ashologist pages should record whether a cigar is core, limited, event-only, international, seasonal or discontinued and update that status when Drew Estate changes production.

Ownership, Brand Architecture and Production Model

Drew Estate owns Liga Privada and produces it in Nicaragua. Drew Estate itself has been part of Swisher since 2014, but Liga Privada remains presented and managed as a Drew Estate premium brand family. The brand architecture combines three principal core expressions—No. 9, T52 and H99—with the Único Serie, Liga Privada 10, international Selección de Mercado, Papas Fritas formats and changing special projects.

The brand-family page should connect the Drew Estate manufacturer profile to No. 9, T52, H99, Único Serie and evaluated cigar pages. It should also link to Liga Privada’s tournament appearances, rankings and Master Ashologist’s Choice coverage. Liga Privada should not receive one universal Ashology score. No. 9, T52, H99, Dirty Rat and other Único expressions have different blends and formats. Only a named cigar and vitola can carry an evaluation score or competition result.
